    WEIGHT LOSS/DETOX

Detoxification

Re-energize your body and lose weight with our physician-supervised 28 day program.

Includes all supplements and coaching.

Detoxification is the most exciting tool in natural medicine for its simplicity, low cost and superior therapeutic results. It is actually fun to participate and you will feel results almost immediately.

We are exposed to toxins every day in the water we drink, the food we eat and the air we breathe.  Your body must remove these impurities. Depending on where you live, your occupation and your habits, this task can be daunting. Your liver, kidneys, skin and lungs all take part in the cleaning process.

Your liver has many functions.  In addition to helping rid the body of toxins, it also metabolizes fats and cholesterol, it assembles proteins, and it is involved in energy production. Toxins can interfere with these processes, sapping your energy and potentially setting the stage for disease.

It has been suggested that toxic overload contributes to more serious conditions such as autoimmune diseases, inflammatory/rheumatoid arthritis, and neurological disorders such as Alzheimers and Parkinsons.

Our program is designed to:

1. Reduce exposure to toxins

2. Enhance your body's ability to detoxify itself

3. Teach you the principles of good nutrition

4. Energize your body and your mind!

Symptoms which may be relieved by following a detox program include:

  • Digestive problems
  • Irritability
  • Headaches
  • Joint pain
  • Bad breath
  • General malaise
  • Itchy skin
  • Weight loss resistance
  • Fatigue
  • Constipation
  • Skin rashes
  • Poor concentration

What a carefully planned detoxification program can offer you:

  • Anti-aging effects
  • Increased productivity
  • Weight loss
  • Clearer skin and eyes
  • Greater motivation and creativity
  • Reduction of allergic symptoms

Mental Detoxification:

The cleansing of our mind of negative thought patterns is essential to health and physical detoxification and can aid this process. Emotionally, detoxification helps us uncover and express hidden frustrations, anger, resentments and fear and replace them with forgiveness, love, joy and hope.

Living a Detox Lifestyle:

Detoxification is a continuous physiological process that your body depends on for survival. There are complex cellular detoxification mechanisms that are constantly at work for you all day, every day. Natural and synthetic chemicals are processed by this complex system of cells, organs, and organ systems to keep you healthy in the face of virtually consistent barrage of toxic material. Our program is an excellent tool to improve your detoxification in the short term. The following suggestions will help you keep your toxic burden low and your detox mechanisms working for the long haul.

  • Notes on Plastic: Heating foods in plastic releases harmful chemicals. You should never heat food in plastic, use glass or ceramic instead.
  • Skin Brushing: To aid in lymphatic drainage, use a dry, natural fiber shower brush or loofah to massage your entire body before you shower or bathe. Start at the toes, and gently scrub using circular motions toward your heart.
  • Clean Water: Public tap water is often contaminated. Drink and cook with only pure filtered water and consider adding a filter to your shower.
  • Microwave Ovens: Although the convenience of microwaves is indisputable, this method of heating can disrupt chemical linkages in otherwise healthy foods and decrease the nutritional value. Heat only on a stovetop or oven whenever possible and use a cast iron pan. Avoid Teflon and synthetic non-stick coatings.
  • Exercise: One of the best ways to increase your metabolic activity is to simply use your body. Daily exercise has innumerable benefits including building lean muscle mass which helps you burn more calories at rest. Consider jumping on a mini trampoline for 3-5 minutes a day to give a boost to your health and vitality. Sweating also releases toxins.

5 Fun and Easy Tips For Enhancing the Detox:

1.      Drink 1 cup of hot water with 1/4 lemon and 2 pinches of cayenne pepper first thing upon waking (on an empty stomach). This is very simple but you would be amazed how many people say they cannot live without it once they start!

2.      Use a dry brush to massage your entire body before getting into the shower. Use a circular motion and work towards the heart. Then shower or bathe. Facilitates circulation and toxic elimination through skin.

3.      Take a warm bath with Epsom salt added to soothe, relax, and detox. Additionally you may rub on the salt with a warm, wet washcloth in bath or shower. Very invigorating.

4.      Jump on a rebounder (mini trampoline) for 3-5 minutes at a time. This shakes up your whole body and is particularly useful for stimulating your lymph drainage system, thereby moving those toxins OUT!

5.      Try your own hydrotherapy in the shower by alternating hot/cold. This stimulates circulation and your immune system. You can also do a sauna/cold shower/sauna etc., if you belong to a gym. Not for the squeamish! But is very invigorating. You'll feel like a million bucks when you are done. Of course, just a sauna and a shower are beneficial as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it be uncomfortable?

Typically, no.  People who are getting a lot of caffeine may have slight withdrawal initially, but most people have very little difficulty otherwise.  This is not a harsh colon cleanse.  It is very gentle on the system.

What should I do if I'm taking medications or vitamins?

You won't need to take any of your regular vitamins.  You'll be getting everything you need in the program. Please DO continue to take medications prescribed by your medical doctor and let us know at our first meeting what medicines you are taking.  If you have specific questions, please don't hesitate to ask. We're here to help.

Can I continue to exercise?

Of course you can.  Exercise is a great way to help the body detoxify.  If you choose to do the optional 3-day 'fast' (shakes only), then exercise moderately during this period.  Listen to your body and use your best judgment.

Fun and Easy Detox Recipes:

1. Sesame Almond Balls

These almond balls are a perfect bite-size dessert. If you want something more to sink your teeth into, bake up some cinnamon raisin mochi squares and stuff them with this mixture.

half cup toasted sesame seeds

half cup almond butter

half cup toasted sunflower seeds

one fourth cup toasted almonds

4-5 dates, pitted

Place one fourth cup of sesame seeds in a small bowl and set aside.

In food processor, combine remaining ingredients to form a stiff paste or meal. Form tablespoon-size balls and roll in extra sesame seeds to coat. Serve immediately or store in airtight container for up to 4 days.

MAKES 12-15 balls.

2. Wild Rice, Barley and Arame Salad

This salad combines soothing barley (particularly healing to the stomach), with wild rice (high in protein) ad arame (a sea vegetable high in absorbable calcium, iron, and minerals). Talk about a power-house of a meal! Serve this salad as a side dish or enjoy its hearty flavors and textures as an energizing snack, a stand-alone salad or a light dinner.

half cup hulled barley (not pearled)

1 cup wild rice

3 and a half cups water

Pinch of sea salt

1 cup arame, dried

three fourths cup of roasted almonds (or macadamia nuts), chopped coarsely

4 scallions, chopped

one fourth cup roasted red pepper, diced

one fourth cup toasted sesame seeds

3 tablespoons toasted sesame oil

1 tablespoon tamari

1 and a half teaspoons lemon juice

Soak barley for a minimum of 1 hour, drain, rinse and place in rice cooker or pot with wild rice, water, and salt. Cook 40 minutes or until liquid is absorbed. Set aside to cool before fluffing.

Soak arame for 10 minutes in enough hot water to cover well. Drain, rinse and set aside.

In a large bowl, combine grains, almonds (or macadamia nuts), scallions, roasted pepper, arame, and sesame seeds. In separate bowl, whisk together sesame oil, tamari, and lemon juice. Pour over salad and toss to evenly coat. Serve at room temperature.

Note: If making this salad in advance, do not add the almonds (or macadamia nuts) and scallions until ready to serve so they keep from getting soggy. Salad can be stored in airtight container for up to four days.
